She fears literally everything: school, classmates, being out alone, teachers, global warming, earthquakes, and even that pile of refuse plastic floating in the Pacific Ocean! And now her overwhelming anxieties and accompanying absences are causing her to fail 7th grade. Enter a precious, little fainting goat being abused by a group of jr. high boys. Without hesitation Marvel fiercely rescues little “Butter” from the boys, and takes the poor animal home. They are truly soulmates! Having Butter constantly at her side calms Marvel and gives her the needed confidence to face the world, but convincing her parents and her school of Butter’s miraculous benefits is another matter. While Butter is able to help Marvel normalize, adult authorities want to send Butter away. Will Marvel be able to cope without her?

But when she realizes burdens are for sharing and quality relationships require humility and trust, she walks a once-lonely path with help. As she becomes less dependent upon clunky, uncomfortable braces for her polio-stricken legs, she also depends less on self-reliance and more on the patient grace of friends and family. Although this is a mid-elementary level read, negative psychological consequences of war (loud noises trigger combative reaction) is more appropriate reading and discussion for middle school and older readers. A well-researched, enjoyable sequel to Blue. 2024-12-18 00:00:02 1 true 8.26000 5.54000 0.81000 0.79000 000378812 Calkins Creek Books Q Quality Paper Bakers Mountain Stories 2011-10-03 312 p. ; BK0009895871 Children's - 4th-7th Grade, Age 9-12 BK4-7 0 0 ING 9781590788950_medium.jpg 0 resize_120_9781590788950.jpg 0 Moyer Hostetter, Joyce 4.5 In print and available 0 0 0 0 0 1 0 1946 1 2017-07-17 13:02:05 0 0 0

Already facing difficult teenage years, Mysti suddenly becomes provider and voice of reason when her mother's agoraphobia strips away her ability to cope. While the text seems to go on without resolution for a good portion of the book, it is likely how the main character experienced life--not as a fictional tale with a shining knight in armor, or even a healed father, but rather a true tale that required courage to break psychological cycles, and to recognize strength in true friendships. 2024-12-18 00:00:02 G true 7.60000 5.20000 1.00000 0.55000 000437368 Little, Brown Books for Young Readers Q Quality Paper 2015-04-21 320 p. ; BK0015469774 Children's - 3rd-7th Grade, Age 8-12 BK3-7 0 0 ING 9780316210461_medium.jpg 0 resize_120_9780316210461.jpg 0 Harrington, Karen 4.4 In print and available 0 0 0 0 0 1 0 1 2018-08-07 20:22:14 0 188 0
